My Uptowns, first and foremost, is an appreciation for Northern Manhattan. Uptown, and especially Washington Heights, is the place I know the most and like the best. I have lived in Washington Heights, at several different addresses, in every decade since the 1950s. I don’t think there is a park or street north of 155th Street that I haven’t walked, biked, or tried to find a parking spot on. My lengthy and fulfilling career as a New York City public school teacher has also taken place entirely in Upper Manhattan. Yes, it is safe to say I have always felt comfortable and at home when I’m uptown.
